After being inspired initially through the shadows she observed on the grass of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out in developing a process that did not depict the subject in a 2-dimensional image. Instead, the object is transformed into a representation of the subject in which the painting becomes the carrier of it's own painterly interpretation, especially in the case of living or perishable items for example, like humans or fruits. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral and only the images of her work are preserved. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a two-dimensional, flat space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. The only elements of the picture like hair and eyes, display the third dimension. Meade has also integrated her painted models within the 3-dimensional space around them. Interaction between them and the created environment is possible. The lines between performance, installation, photography and painting are thus dissolved.
